I was about to go to sleep, when I heard the faint sound of rain beating on the window sill. I asked my roommate to open the window, and alas – twas rain! We both smiled, and I decided, I must share my happiness with you.
This year has been an extremely dry year in Israel. Just the other week, the word went out, that the Kinneret is officially closed. The water level is dangerously low.
The Gemarah in Tractate Ta’anit (7), states that a day on which rain falls, is like the day the world was created. The Sages even say that it is a day on which salvation comes to the world.
The commentaries explain that the second statement of the Sages is alluding to the teaching that the Resurrection of the Dead will not be completed, until it rains first.
I go to sleep, with the hope of waking up – if not in the actual world of Mashiach – but at least in a world where everyone will be inspired to do good, and help it come, even a minute faster! Don’t forget to keep Israel’s need for rain in your prayers!
